From Indies with Love is a PO Box of Curated Games and Warm Feels

I probably don’t really have to point out that there are a lot of gaming blogs out there. There are some that are so-so, some that are actually pretty good, and some that are really something nice. From Indies with Love is one of those really enjoyable blogs that comes around once in a while and gives you something to look forward to, like real mail!

Pioneered by Dom2d and friends, the premise is simple: each post appears in the form of a letter from one game-enthusiast to another, complete with a stamp and a warm, personable signature. Each letter describes a specific game and highlights the memorable points and features of said game, but is directed not to a general audience, as I’m talking to you now. Each post feels so personal and is filled with a sometimes silly, sometimes matter-of-fact sense of purpose. And you know what? Since they’re written in person-to-person format, the little postcards feel accountable and believable.

The blog is in its infancy, but has a whole back-catalog already of short but great letters. Each one is accompanied by a screenshot or two, and a link to wherever the game can be reached. It seems that the format is open to other kinds of games, but at present seems to be mostly dominated by thoughtful and well-designed indie titles, which of course is wonderful. As I’m sifting through the post like a shoe box of old memories, I’m sometimes delighted to find a title from years ago and am treated to reading the writer’s positive experience about it. I guess what I’m saying is that it’s so nice to read a review about a game that isn’t a technical review of a game. It’s not really about the parts, but the sum of the parts and the lingering effect.

And oh! I sent along a bit of mail myself, in which I sent in an old message in a bottle and talked on and on about Ridiculous Fishing. They published my letter right here!
